Rainy Days And Mondays Always Make Me Blue:

Well maybe not exactly blue but it leaves me without ganas to do much of anything. I have been tinkering with my computer much of the day. We have been having rainy cloudy weather that keeps me from wondering very far from home.

This morning I got up/did the usual things. Had coffee, saw TV news, read email, saw what was happening on the internet. Boring! Boring! Boring! So I started some computer cleanup. I’d been looking for a replacement for my photo editor. It’d not been doing its job very well lately so I set out on the search for its replacement. Looked into three programs, VicMan’s Photo Editor, Corel Paint Shop Pro 3X, and finally GIMP for Windows.

VicMan was not bad and it was free. It did much of what my old PaintShop program did but I was not satisfied with it. My complaint was with the interface, and it was really cosmetic, had little to do with how it worked. For most it would have served well.

Next I was going to try out the new Corel Paint Shop. It was a trial version. If I liked it it was only $39, not a bad price for a fair photo editor. The download was about 500 megabytes and took a long time. Got error message when I ran the installer. Took too long to install! When I tried to run it, it hiccupped and told me to reinstall again. Not having patience to go through this process again, I removed it. A monster of a program, it took a while to remove! I was not a happy camper with this Corel program! It was too big and clumsy for most folks to use.

Finally I looked at GIMP. It came highly recommended by users. I’d tried it before but it did not seem like something that I could use. When I first tired it some time ago it had several small screens that split up on the computer screen. I found it hard to use! This time I looked a little deeper into the reviews and found a special Windows version. Got this version and found it a lot friendlier to use. It only came in three parts that were  very manageable and logical. It has much of what I’d like in a truly versatile photo editing program. This one might just do the trick!

You might ask why I am so particular about what I am looking for in a photo editor. I may have more on my wish list for such in a future blog. For now I am glad that I made good use of a rainy Monday!
